Bird's Eye Chilli
Bird's Eye Chilli
A small red chilli of African origin (Capsicum annuum), up to 2 cm long, one of the most widely grown chillies in the world, now cultivated in Africa, India, China, Mexico and Italy. Despite its small size, it delivers an intense heat of between 100,000 and 225,000 Scoville units.
Bold and lively, it is an extremely versatile chilli: used whole or crushed, it is the star of classic spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino. Also ideal for sauces, fish soups and flavoured oils.

Storage Instructions
The name comes from the shape and arrangement of its small berries: the short, tapered fruits recall little eyes or birds' beaks. They were once used to add colour to private gardens, and could be found in royal gardens too.
